Wrestling with Gravy

Something we don't see enough of -- use of the grid and respect for white space. I like this.

AlternaDad

"Neal Pollack is determined to raise his son with a rock ’n’ roll attitude." And with pretty funny book covers too.

The Blade Itself

Rather well-reviewed by Janet Maslin, this is a book that I wouldn't really be interested in reading - I'm not a thriller kind of guy. I do like the cover, though, and recognize two of the design elements -- the red slash and the cut type -- from recent posts. All that means is that I spend way too much time looking at book covers :-)

PS: Giles at Foreword had a post about yellow covers a few weeks back.

Zoli

Hand lettering probably would have worked a little better here. Regardless, this would certainly catch my eye in a bookshop.

A Perfect Mess

Not sure which is the final design -- both of these are on Amazon.co.uk. The placement of the subtitle on the second version is really odd.

The Misunderstood Jew

I really like the gesture to the crown of thorns. Nice.

Kockroach

A cockroach wakes up in a Times Square hotel in the 1950s as a man. This is brilliant.

Tales of the Out & the Gone

Brown and pink and light blue -- love it, but wonder if it will look dated as soon as these color combos go out of fashion. Otherwise, I really like the simplicity of this.

The New Bedside Playboy

I don't really know what the Playboy brand looks like anymore -- I'm more of a Juggs man myself (no hate mail please -- only kidding!!!) -- but does it look like this?

Cursed from Birth

There's something about this I really like. It might be the alignment of the text, or maybe it's the white horizontal bars that make me think of a louvered door. Since Burroughs Jr. was raised in Florida, I can't think that this isn't intentional. And check out the palm tree: it took me awhile to figure out why it looks so delightfully odd. See it?
