Specimen Days

I don't like Michael Cunningham. I read Flesh and Blood and really disliked it. I no longer have the book, but I remember a sentence that went something like: "The white bedspread bespoke the patience of whiteness." Oy. If I want to read poetry I'll read poetry.

But I digress. This cover: anyone love it? Strong feelings about the type?

The Elements of Murder: A History of Poison

Not sure that the pulp aesthetic is working here. But at least now I know that Tl=Thallium.

South Park Conservatives

Yuck.

How to Be Idle

An odd convergence: the men who provided the voices of Tigger and Piglet both die within a day of each other, and then I see this cover, which (to me) clearly has a Winnie the Pooh feel.

Imagined Cities

From Yale University Press. Why are titles from university presses so boring? I'm not talking about the image; I realize resources are limited for such things. Yet why are they almost always uninspired?

Lord Byron's Novel

Yikes...this was on Penguin's edition of Ecce Homo forever. And I've seen it used several other times as well.

The Closed Circle

Must be a theme this week. I can't remember seeing something recently that used the London Underground, but I've got $10 that says there have been tons of designs exactly like this.

Marriage, a History

I just don't get this. Why is the couple so obscured? And are we supposed to infer something about marriage from the Venn-diagramish graphic?

A Long Way Down

All I can think to say is, "Eh."
