The Death of the Detective

Design by Greta Polo

My fondness for scribbles continues. Past examples can be seen here.

I don't know that I love this cover as a whole. It's a bit all over the place -- I think there are 4 different type / lettering styles -- and the Chicago map is a bit much (although perhaps Northwestern University Press just couldn't resist). But oh, that scribbling.

This is very beautiful cover. Very Penguinesque (is there such a word???).

The scribbling rocks! Not the first time I've seen that, but it works here and does what it always does—makes for an irreverent treatment of the whole piece. The title type is just lovely. The positioning of the words "a novel" are very well places, subtle, but there without taking away or being distracting.

It's just nice, it feels good.

Ian: I'll have to go back to the store and take a second look. I totally agree with the title type.

And "penguinesque" absolutely should be a word.

Does the head look small or is it just me?

the head seems fine to me, but even if it is a bit small it does not take away form the whole piece. to me.
