Murakami in Israel

Haruki Murakami is the 2009 recipient of the Jerusalem Prize for the Freedom of the Individual in Society, defying calls from pro-Palestinian groups to decline the prize. The Guardian's got a nice write-up of the controversy and Murakami's reaction to it, and it gives me the opportunity to show book covers from Israel for the first time.

These are just as gorgeous as ecs says they are. I particularly love the second one.

for as famous an author, these both fall short. But the first one is graphically appealing and pleasing. The later one does not speak to the novel's content whatsoever. It's cool as a piece of art, but not a book cover that is meant to give the reader a hint of the tale.
