The Sad Truth About Happiness

Huh? What was that? Is something behind me?

Can someone please explain this?

A little ambiguity can be good, no? Gets people thinking, maybe even giving a book a second look. I could posit a guess: The sad truth about happiness is that only in hindsight (i.e. looking backwards) do you realize when you were truly happy. But then it's too late.

Ambiguity is very appropriate sometimes. I guess it's just this picture. She seems more startled than anything.

I think the fact that she looks startled gives it a comical rather than poignant feel.

This is a great painting by Gerhard Richter but I'm tired of art turning into "design"
