The Best of the Year (So Far)
Hello.
I won't be updating the site this coming Sunday, November 13. And when I noticed that I've made over 175 posts to this blog since it started in January 2005, I thought it would be fun to pick 10% or so of what I think are the best designs of the year. Here's a start, in no particular order. More to come.
Which ones are *your* favorites?
PS: I stand by my selection of Johnny Mad Dog :-)

All very nice. I especially like the Urrea cover. Btw, whatever happened to the Inner Ape cover re-design thing you threw a while back? Did I miss something?
The George Saunders book takes it for me. Everything about it is super crazy and unexpected to be on a book cover. Then again, I'm a sucker for anything sci-fi.

I was away on business and am leaving for a honeymoon in two days, but plan on posting the redesigns I received (including one, maybe two from me) this coming Friday.
I love "K" as well. When I first posted it I wrote: "I love this. Simplicity always wins. For those who think this looks like someone's art school project, I say "pfffffftt." Still feel that way :-)
The best one there is BORN TO KVETCH. No tricks, no gimmicks, just hysterical perfect.
Sean Wilsey's Oh the glory of it all, is my choice. Since i have seen the jacket and it goes with the content of the book. And there is a black jacket version as well. Lovely, and this being a Penguin book has nothing to do with it...

The Saunders and the Maslowska (much as I loathed the book and characters themselves). Surprised you didn't include Robot Uprising.
i don't see how some of the bookcovers actually got into the best bookcovers of the year, because not all of them are really so good...
Hello,
This is Sandra from publisherbooks.com. I am writing to inform you that I think the book covers need to be updated for 2008 because I was thinking of having an awards ceremery for they best book covers. I would love it if you could email be back at becky@harrison1954.freeserve.co.uk - this is my working partners email address.
The "Oh the glory of it all" design is straight up rip of Non Format. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

see the archives section..you'll see what I'm talking about. Their work for the wire looks EXACTLY the same.
