I haven't read either of these. But as far as title + image combos,
"How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" coupled with a pack of smokes has more substance than the other ... which seems to rely on a reader's familiarity with the previous design.
On its own, without reference to the other Toby Young book, "The Sound of No Hands Clapping" + matchbook seems a bit arbitrary and lacks meaning ...

probably that it's hard to strike a match with no (or even one) hand? That's my best guess.
