Hyper-Chondriac

Design by Rodrigo Corral Design.

Wow. How much stronger is this because of the background? Lots, I would say. Not only does it give the cover as a whole some depth, but the repetition of "hurry up and calm down" is brilliant.

I also love the type in the background as well as the great detail on the fingers.

As an editor, not a designer, am always prejudiced against any design that forces reader to hold head at a 90-degree angle. Boo vertical type! That said, yes, beautiful. And smart.

as a designer and reader, I delight in vertical type... I like that it requires a little extra investment. I feel like once I have gone an extra step, I've comitted a little extra to that book.

Oh Rodrigo Corral... how you fill me with such a jealous admiration.

Rodrigo is good. Does anyone know what happens on the spine?

Hi, I'm an editor in Brazil and I love to read (and see) your blog! Here, unfourtunately, the design of covers are not so appreciated, despite eveybody agrees that covers are so important for seling books... And it's sooo good that you is giving the designers names. Congratulations!!!

FYI, I just read the book and it's fantastic - laugh out loud funny and touching. I highly recommend!

Hmmm, I think this is what you said a lesser designer might have done on "Cigarette Century".

Thomas: I think there's a lot more going on here, but I could be wrong...I certainly stand by the awesome background.

What if the design was turned 90*? I'm trying to picture it and I think it would work.
