Penguin's "Boys Own Books" Series

Very interesting art direction for Penguin's forthcoming "Boys Own Books" series: I think these covers will appeal more to book-buying parents than book-reading kids, which probably makes sense. There's a strong and very cool Hardy Boys-like "rushing into possible danger" element to most of these.

These are absolutely gorgeous! Penguin does such an awesome job with its covers. Just yesterday I blogged about their Classic Deluxe Edition, which also includes some amazing covers. Yay Penguin.

Oh, wow. Fabulous.

They're retro but they're very bold and eye-catching. And you're right, they are Hardy Boys art styled.

ah, SO much better than the other "cool" teenage stuff out there. Just today I was sent an email from a bookstore for this winner from James Patterson. Ew.

(apologies for the link, couldn't find a pic of the cover alone)

i think each has its own style. the She cover for instance is very reminiscent of art nouveau adverts.

Thanks for your comments. I designed these book jackets and its really nice to see the covers talked about. There are two more in the series and each cover has a style relivant to the date it was first published.

Cheers!
