The New Chabon spine
Design by Will Staehle
The spine for Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union. More on this fantastic jacket here.
Not only beautiful, but I love how it reads as a sentence:
"Harper Collins presents The Yiddish Policemen's Union by the Pulitzer Prize winning author of the The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay, Michael Chabon."
I can't recall ever seeing something like this. Can you?

Thanks for sharing the spine with us. I think it's a bit busy for the eye, but I'm glad you were able to get that image for us.

Bought this one over the weekend. It's printed three-color (black, red and teal) on a lovely textured matte paper (if it is paper, might be plastic), with some delicate embossing. Very nice.
I love the art on this cover/spine. Really reminds me of Chris Ware. Does anyone know the artist? I can't wait to get this book. Hoping to get it soon, Chabon is such a great writer..
Never seen this done and not enough good can be said about this books design...
I'm glad someone mentioned Chris Ware. This reminds me of his Jimmy Corrigan books; I wouldn't be surprised if Ware had a hand in this design. Another point of reference for Ware: the incredible "schematic" of the windup bird for Chip Kidd's cover of Murakami's novel.
