Words Without Borders: The World Through the Eyes of Writers
Cover by Helen Yentus
Anthologies come in two different flavors: general ones ("Great Writers of the blah blah blah") and more focused ones, such as this, for which "27 well-known authors (Günter Grass, Jonathan Safran Foer, Naguib Mahfouz, etc.) were asked to recommend work by a favorite non-English writer."
Using a map theme was probably a no-brainer to everyone involved in this project, but we shouldn't care: the execution of the design here looks pretty damned perfect. I can't wait to see this in person. Buy this book from Amazon.com
PS: It's an oldie but a goodie, as long as we're talking about anthologies...design by John Gall:

I'm fairly certain Helen Yentus did the Words Without Borders cover.
Helen Yentus did the cover and it is exquisite
Reminds me of "Maps of the Imagination: The Writer as Cartographer" by Peter Turchi (cover: http://tinyurl.com/3dvfd7)
This one (http://tinyurl.com/2o8y87) I don't like as much.
I love "system" oriented design. Logic, mathematics, grids, charts and graphs! It's so beyond me and I never even attempt to use it. And so beautiful. So bravo to both of these...
ben, your (fwis's) site: covers.fwis.com rocks in it's execution. I hate how this site makes you jump to another page where you can't see the book you're commenting about. So much for relying on technology and not building things form scratch...
Thanks for a great site guys... even though I get the brunt of the "no love" from most of it's current users... daisy love got me in trouble with the "design" community. Oh well.
Ian: buy your books from this site and I'll look into doing something different. ;-)
