It's Time for a Vacation

A bottle of tequila is calling my name, and as that bottle of tequila happens to be in Mexico, the BDR will be taking a break until Saturday, October 13th.

Still here? Check out the archives, my favorite covers of the year (so far), or do a little shopping. But above all, have a great week.

Did you read the first piece in Best American Essays yet, the one by Jo Ann Beard? One of the best essays I've ever read.

Acapulco. Haven't been there yet; Mrs. Sullivan and I have been to Playa del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta and Oaxaca, but never Acapulco. I'll be sure to tell you how it is.

The vacation books are Edward Jones' The Known World and Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. And I got sucked back into All the Pretty Horses on the train to work today, so I think I'm taking more books than clothes. That sounds about right to me.

Ha, That's my hometown. My main reccomendations is that if you want to swim in the sea, go to the beaches farther than Puerto Marques (Playa Princess, punta diamante, Bonfil) it's a vast flat windy beach with dark smooth sand, the water is shallow, but you can do some body boarding. It's open water, so it is much cleaner water. The main Acapulco Bay is better to look at than swim in.

In Oaxaca I reccomend Mazunte, which is a tiny tiny coast town that's very quiet and friendly, not as full of tourists as other Oaxacan beaches, also, with surprisingly great food.

When you go on vacation, my morning inspiration stops. I need to diversify, I guess.
