Jessa at Bookslut interviewed the illustrator of this series. Among other interesting comments: "The mirror image style was already set... The problem was making what was an awkward, tall and thin area feel natural in the space and not end up looking like a totem pole."

I love this series. If you look on Pearson's portfolio you can see the entire group of work (http://www.davidpearsondesign.com/greatjourneys.html). Good use of color, illustrative style, and type.
maybe it's the topics or the position in my store but in my experience these little penguin abridgments (in some cases) of classics of a various genre, here travel literature, at other times, 'classics' or 'great ideas' only the latter most has been successful and those went for a minimal cover. A fancy cover doesn't (in this case) seem to be breathing life into these (somewhat obscure, to me) texts. Anyway, great covers, the variety of covers is great but runs into the 10 books, 12 slots in the display that penguin loves.
Yeah. Pearsons work is the perfection of design. Nice.
I may be wrong, but those are ligatures on "st" in Customs, correct.
I've been waiting to see a nice implementation of those.
Symmetry definitely works perfectly here.
