Proust and the Squid

Design by Paola Ecchavaria

Saw this on the new books table last night. It's the latest in this year's mini-trend: the "book-on-a-book-cover" approach (also seen on The Last Novel and House of Happy Endings). It's really quite beautiful and elegant in person, and I'll leave it to those more zoologically inclined to determine if the wonderful spelled-out-in-random-letters creature at the bottom is actually more octopus-like than squid-like.

I like this cover a lot. I agree, however, that the squid looks suspiciously similar to an octopus; nonetheless, I like that it is comprised of random letters. It's a great reflection of Wolf's work.

I would love a signed copy of this book. I've been a fan of Maryanne Wolf for years. She knows her stuff about dyslexia and is incredibly kind to parents and educators. I saw her stay long after a lecture formally ended in order to answer every question in the audience. I'm so happy that her cover looks great. I can't wait to read her book.

PS I love this blog!

That's a gorgeous cover.

I'm not sure if books on book covers is such a new trend. Here are two titles I can remember off the top off my head:
