Shoot the Damn Dog

I didn't understand it at first either, but Winston Churchill used to refer to his depression as "his black dog." The layout, colors and visual hierarchy make me anything but depressed -- I really like this.

What I like the best is that the hand lettered feeling subtitle and author's name are really hand lettered. All of the repeating letters (Ms, Ns, As) are different. It gives the cover an intimate feeling.

Reminds me of the lettering on the covers of Everything is Illuminated and the HC edition of Ben Kunkel's Indecision.

Graphically it's fun to look at. Seems like I've seen this somewhere though...

Sometimes I think covers are done more for the sake of trying to be a graphic artist rather then doing something that really works for the piece and is a good, solid solution.

This strikes me as that type of cover.

But I do like it...
