All the Sad Young Literary Men, U.S. paperback
Design by Susan Dean
Illus. by Jamie Todd
The 2008 hardcover design by The Heads of State was one of my favorite covers last year, but the paperback design for All the Sad Young Literary Men doesn't disappoint: we get to see the obsessions of the three main characters -- writing, history, women -- and the winding and ultimately distracting paths they wander between them. (Nice use of New Yorker Bold too; does any typeface say "literary" more than that?)

Too bad about the actual contents of the book. Such as they are.
Reviews were rather mixed, weren't they.
This is a variation on the UK hardback (which was white rather than red, but otherwise much the same).
They should have stuck with the (excellent) hardcover design, IMO. I almost bought a remaindered copy of that just for the cover.
I think my favorite thing about this cover is the unusual treatment of everyone's favorite two words, "a novel." For some reason replacing it with "a fiction" is kind of awesome. And I'm guessing it fits, given the subject matter.
Mike, can you provide a link so we can see that UK cover?
I'll grab that uk cover and post it in just a bit.
JRSM, can you give a link to the UK hardback?
Sorry, I just saw your comment.
There you go. Two of them, in fact :-)
One problem with iconic fonts like NYBold is that the font jumped out at me a few seconds before I actually read what was printed in it.
