Why this photo? According to Kirkus Reviews, this is "a dense cultural history of adolescence from 1875 to 1945." So no Girls Gone Wild and "those crazy kids spend too much time on the Interweb" stuff here. Just kids very covered up by their bathing suits.

And one of the things I like best about writing this blog: the photo made me wonder how long color film has been widely available and used. The answer? About 70 years.
