Hocus Potus

Design by Kelly Blair

If the blurbs at Amazon are true -- that this "rollicking political farce" is "a hysterically irreverent-and masterfully crafted-antiwar novel" -- then this cover pretty much nails it. I don't care that little has been done with the type -- in fact this would be a great candidate for no text on the cover at all; the publisher (Melville House) has done this before.

And who wouldn't have wanted to be at this photo shoot?

Yeah, it looks good. But what is he holding? Some errant punctuation mark?

Reminds me of Picadilli Circus.
I love it. It's fun. I think he is holding a cut out of a bomb...

Nice idea, but it looks kind of cheesy and amateurish in execution to me.

But, It's sooo cheesy that they must have meant to make it look that way.

Looks like Paul McCarthy's work a bit huh?

Piccadilly Circus Bunker Basement styled work.

it's a WMD Bush's holding, or trying to sneak one in or out to somewhere, maybe into his own dreams. this cover rocks my funny bone. i guess it's supposed to be cartoonish because the book is funny, cartoonish? Who knows?

I really can't get behind this "no type on the cover" fascination. From my point of view, words aren't evil, words sell books, allowing publishers to make more books, keeping us all in business. Furthermore, type can be profoundly beautiful. This notion that it's somehow extra daring, or more impressive, to design an unmarketable typeless cover has got to go.

Put this on a book table and it'll be noticed over 100 others; thus, it works superbly as a book jacket. congrats
