Black Postcards, Hardcover and Paperback

On top, the hardcover. Below that, the paperback. I love seeing little tweaks like this. Wareham (Galaxie 500, Luna, Dean & Britta) is a musician after all; why hasn't the guitar been there all along?

Also very interesting is the fact that the first one is categorized as "Rock & Roll Romance" and the other one as a "Memoir"...
Perhaps because the guitar is "rock & roll" enough? :-)
I vastly prefer the hardback. Wareham plus the guitar plus those stray cables plus all the extra text makes it seem too messy for me. Plus, why do we really need the guitar. If you are interested in this, you probably already know who Dean Wareham is. There is no need to belabor the point.
Love how these work together with different cropping. Also, I really appreciate how the type on the paperback works together. Great work!
I agree with Tropolist... I think the second cover looks cluttered, and there's less black (from the t-shirt) to underscore the "Black" in the title.
Now, here's a book where I felt there was some serious improvement from hardcover to paperback:
Felix Gilman's Thunderer in hardcover
Thunderer in paperback
I think the 2nd one is more aesthetically pleasing to begin with, but once you read the book you realize what an improvement it really is... I refuse to believe that the character on the front of the hardcover looks ANYTHING like that, whereas the bird in the paperback version is representative of something very central to the story.
They're not the same photo.
