The Slippery Year
Design by Barbara de Wilde
I admit it: I'm a sucker for this kind of thing, if only because I wonder how many kegs one has to deliver to the marketing department to get this approved and out the door.
A unique twist on the cover-on-cover idea we've discussed before. I wonder what this would look like with stronger, bigger type and without the chair, letting the slipped cover do all of the work. I betcha the evolution of this one was pretty interesting. Who's got the comps? :-)
UPDATE: Reader Christopher King pointed this out (design by Post Typography):

doesn't it look like the person is hanging herself?
the feet+chair look hastily pasted together; it's a shame that it dilutes the otherwise neat concept.
why we make mistakes is a brilliant cover. bold color, strong type and says just enough with so little. solid concept.
The first cover is cool too. I just like the spunky colors mostly—and the funny image. Otherwise, to be honest with you, as an end reader I would not get the whole slipped jacket idea. Just seems like a technique to add to the quirkiness of it all and not so much a well conceived idea. But nice nonetheless.
I wonder if anyone knows the name of the typeface used on the Slippery Year? It looks so much like the one I keep seeing on the screen ads at my Wells Fargo ATM.
"Why We Make Mistakes" could be just as powerful without the DELETE key and glue - if not more. Also, the front cover could have been placed on the back cover, and vise versa.
I'm pretty sure the font on The Slippery Year is Archer.

In a similar vein as this Tibor Kalman poster:

Also this cover by Kidd:

Archer is being overused!
I agree delete key etc makes for clutter. Using the same word at end of break and beginning of next (and and, or are, are) would have been a more subtle way of saying the same thing.

i really like the "why we make mistakes" cover. the cover looks like its slipped down the book in a really elegant way.
I saw Slippery Year on the shelf yesterday @ Borders. It looks pretty cool next to other books.
The Slippery Year is so good it "makes me shudder."
