I like the illustration a lot, but I think that it would have been better to form the text with negative space in the branches and leaves. Kinda like the cover John Gall did for Jonathan Safran Foer's 2nd novel when the working title was I'M OK.
Have to respectfully disagree, readymade. The little break in the foliage to accomodate "A Novel" is what makes this interesting. Personally, I love it.
What kind of handlettering? I think something not as stark and angular as the type that's used...but maybe it's more of a color palette thing than anything else.

I find this an attractive cover- but I'm not sure it would pull in my interest.
The "A Novel" just spoils the whole cover by being so darn conspicuous.
