Hand lettering probably would have worked a little better here. Regardless, this would certainly catch my eye in a bookshop.

The "A Novel" just spoils the whole cover by being so darn conspicuous.

I like the illustration a lot, but I think that it would have been better to form the text with negative space in the branches and leaves. Kinda like the cover John Gall did for Jonathan Safran Foer's 2nd novel when the working title was I'M OK.

Joseph, what kind of handlettering were you thinking of? Just curious.

Have to respectfully disagree, readymade. The little break in the foliage to accomodate "A Novel" is what makes this interesting. Personally, I love it.

What kind of handlettering? I think something not as stark and angular as the type that's used...but maybe it's more of a color palette thing than anything else.
